Community Garden Workshops
Green Spaces hosts multiple workshops each year that provide gardeners with regionally-appropriate gardening techniques as they get hands-on training from local experts.
The next workshop is to be held on:
Saturday, July 31, 2010 - "Garden Safety and First Aid"
A. How to Start a Community Garden
- Build your community group.
- Define your garden's purpose.
- Select a garden site.
- Determine leaders and delegate tasks.
- Gather resources and support.
B. Funding for Community Gardens
- Starter Funding from Green Spaces
These awards provide facilitation, advice, and some funding to help gardeners get started. Groups of five or more unrelated individuals who want to start a garden in their neighborhood may apply. Organized neighborhood associations, non-profit corporations, public institutions, and unincorporated neighbor groups are also encouraged to apply.

If you plan to apply, please contact us as soon as possible. Please include the name of your neighborhood and/or affiliated organization. - Other funding opportunities are also available to community gardens.
C. Keep Community Gardens Growing
There are several ways that you can help keep community gardens growing:
- Volunteer on one or more occasions at one or more gardens.
- Donate to Green Spaces Alliance or become a member.
- Donate underused equipment to community gardens in San Antonio.
- Sponsor a tree, bench, planter box, set of tools, or a whole garden and have your name posted in that garden.
- Offer your expertise.
